Dysmenorrhea may be defined as abdominal pain and other distressing symptoms that occur just before and during menstruation time when those symptoms interfere with one’s usual daily activities.
Primary dysmenorrhea or function dysmenorrhea shows no signs of organic disease. Secondary dysmenorrhea shows distinct organic disease, e.g. endometriosis, acute or chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (P.I.D.).
